DISC.....understanding communication preferences

Understanding the communication jungle ..... DISC

Have you ever walked away from a person wondering what they just said to you? Chances are that they aren't irrational, they just communicate from a different dimensional intensity to you. Sound like something from a sci-fi movie? Let me introduce you to the concept of DISC. The DISC model, as we know it today, was originally conceived by Harvard Psychologist Dr. William Moulton Marston. Marston published the book “The Emotions of Normal People” in 1928, which outlined the basis of the DISC theory. The premise of this theory was that all people demonstrate some behaviour which can be categorised into four dimensions, or quadrants. People don’t belong to only one dimension; it is the intensity of each of the dimensional traits or characteristics that they display that will colour their communication preferences and observable behaviour.

Still sound like you’re in the communication jungle? Scope offers an interactive workshop designed to debrief your DISC profile which has measured your observable behaviour or ‘how you act’. Research has consistently shown that our behavioural characteristics can be grouped into four quadrants:

It is the intensity of these four dimensions that people observe in our behaviours. Today, DISC is one of most popular and highly validated assessments in business, estimated to be in use by 75% of the Fortune 500 companies. DISC has been validated across ages, genders, cultures, races and religions, exploring the way we communicate and interact with one another.

Scope’s workshop explores:

  • Reading and interpreting your DISC profile
  • Putting your behaviours into action
  • Your value to the organisation
  • Checklist for communicating
  • Don’ts on communicating
  • Communication tips for the different styles
  • Creating an ideal environment
  • Perceptions; how people see you
  • Understanding your natural and adapted style
  • Keys to motivating
  • Keys to managing
  • Areas for improvement
